چکیده

OBJECTIVE To report a novel surgical procedure to displace retained subfoveal perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL). METHODS Retrospective cases series. Three patients had retained subfoveal droplets after PFCL was used in vitrectomy repair of retinal detachment. In each case, submacular PFCL was displaced to the subretinal space in the inferior periphery. A retinal detachment at the posterior pole and the inferior periphery was created by injecting balanced salt solution through a retinal puncture near the inferotemporal vessels. Fluid-air exchange was performed, followed by short-term postoperative upright head positioning. RESULTS In all cases, PFCL droplets were successfully displaced toward the inferior periphery, with good visual recovery. CONCLUSION This procedure seems to be safe and is an alternative to direct aspiration of PFCL through a juxtafoveal retinotomy, which risks damage to the foveal region.

Subretinal Perfluorocarbon Liquid (PFCL) after Vitrectomy; A Case Report And Review of Literature

Purpose: To report a case of retained subretinal perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) after vitrectomy and to discuss the diagnosis and management of subretinal PFCL based on literature review. Case Report: A 57-year-old female patient underwent 3-port 23-gauge vitrectomy for advanced proliferative diabetic retinopathy and combined tractional and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. During the surgery, ...

Removal of subfoveal perfluorocarbon liquid: Report of 3 cases

Purpose To report removal of retained subfoveal perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) after vitrectomy for retinal detachment. Methods Three patients underwent 3-port 23-gauge vitrectomy in an attempt to remove retained subfoveal PFCL bubble secondary to retinal detachment surgery. In two patients, removal was achieved via a 23-G needle whereas the third patient with multiple small subfoveal droplets...

Changes in retinal sensitivity from retained subretinal perfluorocarbon liquid.

PURPOSE To study the effect of retained subretinal perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) on retinal function. METHODS Scanning laser ophthalmoscope microperimetry was performed on four eyes with retained subretinal PFCL after vitreoretinal surgery for complicated retinal detachments with and without proliferative vitreoretinopathy. RESULTS Scotomas to the highest intensity stimulus were noted in th...

Surgical Removal of Retained Subfoveal Perfluorocarbon Liquid through a Therapeutic Macular Hole with Intravitreal PFCL Injection and Gas Tamponade

We report two cases of surgical removal of a retained subfoveal perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) bubble through a therapeutic macular hole combined with intravitreal PFCL injection and gas tamponade. Two patients underwent pars plana vitrectomy with PFCL injection for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. In both cases, a retained subfoveal PFCL bubble was noticed postoperatively by funduscopy and op...

Spontaneous resolution of subfoveal perfluorocarbon

Perfluorocarbon liquids (PFCL) have transformed the surgical approach to complex retinal detachments, but their use can be complicated by subretinal retention. Migration of peripherally located subretinal PFCL towards the fovea is well established, but spontaneous resolution of subfoveal PFCL without surgical evacuation or displacement has rarely been described. We present a case of a large sin...
